Nothing in the world can be more frustrating or annoying than a slow internet connection. And the reason is that most of our daily life activities have become dependent on the internet. Sometimes so much so that life as a whole seems to comes to a halt when the internet connection does not work according to our need. Wireless internet connections that we use are generally referred to as Wi-Fi. But if we take a little technical jab at this point, every wireless connection is not the same and mostly the speed of your internet depends upon the wireless router you are using. So, the slow connection does not always imply that the problem is at Internet provider’s end. Rather your slow connection could be the result of the type of router you are using and the speed it offers.

Wireless N and wireless G are the terms referring to 802.11n and 802.11g wireless standards. Wireless N or 802.11n is a wireless networking standard which was created in 2009 to improve network throughput (i.e. maximum speed and transmission capabilities). It became more significant over the two prior standards which were 802.11a and 802.11g on the basis that it increased data transmission rate more than 10 folds i.e. from 54Mbps to 600-900Mbps. It also opened up additional spectrum areas for wireless transmissions. It also introduced multi-input multi-output or spatial streaming communications.

It has the best coverage in terms of distance but it does not eliminate the blind spots or dead zones when it comes to internet sharing between two different houses. Wireless G or 802.11g (introduced in 2003) and other similar wireless local area networking standards (WLAN) like 802.11a and b were used for simple web browsing and e-mail connectivity. The data transmission rates wireless 802.11a, b, and g are 2Mbps, 11Mbps and 54Mbps respectively and all of the wireless 802.11x standards are continuously evolving to meet new desires and demands.

Wireless AC and Wireless AD both promise to deliver increased capacity, speed and performance that allow users to enjoy the high-speed internet and highest data rate applications. The 802.11ac is the extension of 802.11n and thereby maintains backward compatibility with existing standards. It is now being increasingly formalized and included on many devices like Roku, iPhone and many other streaming devices. The 802.11ac’s maximum data rate is 6.93Gb/s using 160-MHz bandwidth, eight spatial streams, modulation, and coding scheme 9 (MCS9).

As mentioned earlier that IEEE 802.11ac is an extension of 802.11n but Wireless AD or IEEE 802.11ad standard is a completely new entity. It is based on high-frequency radio waves and uses 60GHz. That means that it can handle a lot more data than the previous standards and it is a lot shorter ranged as high-frequency signals dissipate much faster. In other words, we can say that it offers extremely fast wireless speed over short distances. The maximum speed of wireless AD is 7Gbps. This is 4Gbps higher than the maximum speed of wireless-AC. The only problem is that there are very few Wireless AD compatible devices yet. This means that most of the devices present cannot make use of Wireless AD speed. Wireless AD is for enterprise level organizations that need extended bandwidth with very short-range devices.
